According to the US National Library of Medicine National Institute of Health, four major US cities (Portland, OR; Jefferson, AL; San Antonio, TX; New York, NY) have increased domestic violence by 20% during the pandemic (accessed 10/27/2021, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7195322/).
With October domestic violence awareness month, WOCPSCN considered the impact of domestic violence's intersectionality of class, culture, race, and religion. The Lena Baker Domestic Violence & Women's Health Summit is the latest signature event that addresses the pandemic of domestic violence.
The Summit began with the Field Deputy/Community Outreach Coordinator for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Bureau of Victim Services, Shari Farmer. Ms. Farmer provided detailed information on the signs of domestic violence. She then provided an actual experience that she was able to experience as Field Deputy.
